Protect Your Love!Maybe you have just found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. Maybe you have been with that person for awhile and are thinking about having children. Perhaps you have been with the love of your life for many years, and you are beginning to worry about what will happen if one of you becomes ill or dies. If you are in a same-sex relationship, you must take affirmative steps to protect your love. Not only are there no default rules in Virginia to protect gay and lesbian families, there are actually rules which work against you. In addition, if you have married or formed a civil union in another state, Virginia does not recognize your relationship. The effects of your out-of-state union will vary as you travel across state lines. Legal planning is an absolute necessity! The Family Equality Law Center is dedicated to serving the family law and estate planning needs of the LGBT community. We are focused on finding solutions to protect your family in Virginia’s not-so-friendly legal environment. We are ready to assist you and your family with legal partnership and family planning advice, preparation of documents which are essential for LGBT families, wills, trust and estate planning, wealth and property acquisition and sharing, medical directives, insurance and beneficiary issues, powers of attorney, parenting plans, contracts and agreements. We will assist you if you and your family are planning to travel out of state or out of the country so that you will be prepared and have the necessary documentation should unforseen problems arise. Family protection planning is a must for same-sex couples. The Family Equality Law Center is dedicated to helping you protect your love. |
